What are the four functions of privacy?
The four fundamental functions of privacy concern key aspects of protecting personal data and guaranteeing the rights of individuals:
- Personal data protection. Ensures that individuals' personal information is handled securely and respectfully, preventing unauthorised access, use or disclosure.
- Confidentiality. Ensures that personal information is collected, used and stored only for specific purposes, limiting access only to those who are authorised and actually need it.
- Transparency. Enables individuals to be informed about how their data is collected, processed and protected by providing them with clear and accessible information about data management processes and their rights.
- Data control and management. Provides individuals with the right to access, rectify, erase and manage their data, as well as the ability to restrict its processing and, in some cases, to object to the use of their data for specific purposes.

What does GDPR mean?
The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union, which came into force on 25 May 2018. The GDPR applies to all organisations that collect or process data from EU citizens, regardless of where they are located.
